Central Florida’s newest major theme park, Legoland, is a playground for the creative at heart. The 150 hectares dedicated to the rectangular building blocks that make up this world are filled with 50 rides and many exhibits and attractions.
Dramatic colors and a tower made of Legos welcome visitors to the aptly named “The Beginning,” where you’ll find park entry and guest services. From there you can choose from 10 themed areas, built around everything from pirates to medieval castles. Legoland is about 40 minutes south of Orlando in Winter Gardens on the site of the old Cypress Gardens.
Visit an old-fashioned Orlando theme park with teeth. Gatorland, which opened as a roadside attraction in 1949, has expanded into a 110-acre habitat for alligators, crocodiles, snakes and other exotic wildlife. Live shows – gator wrestling, close encounters, a train ride through the swamp and an overhead zip line – can fill your day with plenty of excitement.
Gatorland also has the world’s largest collection of white crocodiles, many of which are large in size. And if you’re not careful, you can squeeze in a bit of education too. Gatorland International Drive is a 15 to 20 minute drive from the area.
