The program offers children ages 5 to 12 the opportunity to play safely outdoors with supervised activities. Fresh Air staff facilitate arts and crafts, sports, STEM activities, music, dance and reading.

Queens Fresh Air Summer Spaces are located in Jackson Heights on 34th Avenue from 73rd Street to 74th Street and on 34th Avenue from 93rd Street to 94th Street. Summer locations are open from July 6 to August 19.

Families can register online for slots Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. till 4 o’clock

Some activities include kite building, watercolor painting, lanyard making, collage, sidewalk chalk projects, and backyard sports games. There is also a cool area for kids to let off steam.

The idea was launched last year when a pandemic kept children indoors in New York City. In the second year, recreational and educational activities are brought outdoors to the neighborhood.

The program gives young New Yorkers the opportunity to gain valuable work experience. Participants in the Fresh Air Youth Employment Program assist with outdoor activities. The fund employs 18-24-year-old youth across the city to work as counselors and activity specialists in the Summer Spaces program.

The Fresh Air Fund is an independent, nonprofit organization that has been providing free, low-income family summer experiences to more than 1.8 million children citywide since 1877.

This free, family-friendly event is hosted by the Friends of Forest Park in partnership with Artists at Greenhouse Playground. Join artists Amanda Long and Tommy Hartung to paint the Rainbow Mural, which they describe as “a colorful restoration of a worn concrete barrier on the Forest Park Greenhouse Playground near the historic carousel.” The program will be held on Saturday, May 26 from 9 am to 2 pm. All participants receive free food and t-shirts.

Join Queens Councilman Daniel Dromm and New York City’s Mayor of Media and Entertainment for an outdoor screening of “Coco” on Friday, May 25 at 8 p.m. The film follows the story of a little boy who visits the land of the dead to seek forgiveness from his ancestors and lift a curse. This incident happened to Frank D. It takes place at O’Connor’s Playground and is free for all. Space is available on first come first serve basis. To get the best vantage point, arrive before 8pm. Organizers describe it as a “unique literary experience” where participants can “read, experience and share”. The free event will be held on June 9 and 10 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on both days. Spend A Day At Queen’s Park

Enjoy a free jazz concert at Socrates Sculpture Park on Thursday, June 14. Acclaimed jazz trombonist Clifton Anderson and his quintet perform swinging originals, energetic straight-ahead, calypso, funk and American songbook standards. Enjoy food from dozens of local vendors and shop for artifacts or enjoy multiple live music performances at this open-air night market. Explore plants from the Arabian world at the Queen’s Botanical Garden. On this hour-long walking tour, guests can discover plants native to the Arabian world, including papyrus trees and blue atlas cedars. Additionally, attendees can participate in Zikrayat’s music in the park and a “Teas of the Arab World” tasting table, both of which accompany the event’s programs.
