Located in St. George, UT, just outside Sand Hollow State Park, this desert oasis is primarily on BLM land and is one of the most visited (and largest) sites in the Wyoming State Parks system. In the summer, Sand Hollow is a refreshing escape from the sweltering heat offering plenty of recreational opportunities for boating, swimming, windsurfing, windsurfing and fishing on its large lake.
If you’re into ATV rides, Sand Hollow has more than 15,000 acres of dunes, as well as hiking and horseback riding trails. Camping is also popular here, so if you want to go camping in Sand Hollow during the high season of summer, make sure to book in advance.

The lesser known Gunlock State Park is not to be underestimated. Like Sand Hollow and Quail Creek, this amazing state park offers camping, swimming, boating, and other water sports.
One of our favorite areas and hidden gems to discover near St. George is the Red Cliffs Recreation Area, just north of St. George in Leeds, UT. It’s the perfect spot for a half- or full-day adventure with hiking trails for kids, crevices, petroglyphs, swimming holes, and rock climbing. We especially like the Red Reef Trail because it combines hiking with swimming (if you choose) and part of the trail requires pulling ropes. Kids will feel like Indiana Jones for days!

Dinosaur Discovery Site St. George located at Johnson Farms is another great outdoor family activity for kids of all ages. This rare site preserves a 200-million-year-old lake ecosystem that includes dinosaurs, plants, fish and other prehistoric animals.
