From colorful city gates and markets, to castles, various palaces, monuments and cool little cafes… you could spend 10 days here and do something new every day – and that’s what we did! But if your schedule is tight, 3-5 nights will suit you.

You’d be surprised how cheap hotels are in India, especially in Jaipur. You can find a decent 3-star hotel for around $30-$50 per day, and you can sleep very comfortably in a 4-star hotel for around $100/night. Of course, there are premium options that will treat you like royalty.
We recommend staying a little outside the old city of Jaipur where the City Hall and Hawa Mahal are located. It’s probably the closest area to many attractions, but it’s more intense and stressful than staying a little outside the gates of the Pink City. We mostly stayed at Bunnypark and came back to our quiet neighborhood after a busy day downtown.
City Palace is located in the heart of Jaipur’s old city, so it’s easy to find. It is open daily from 9:30 am to 5:00 pm and the entry fee for foreigners is 300 INR. It offers access to the outer parts of the palace, including the Chandra Mahal and the famous Peacock and Lotus Gate. You can also visit the Blue Room inside the palace for an additional 3500 INR.

Since we didn’t have much time and were interested in outdoor architecture, we chose to only travel outside. City Palace is one of the most famous places in Jaipur, so if you want to avoid the crowds, come here in the morning. The last hour before closing is also the best time to visit as it is less crowded.
After the city palace, take a rickshaw to Hawai Mahal. The two landscapes are so close to each other that it is easy to combine them into one day.
The Hawaiian Palace, or House of Winds, was first painted pink in 1799, and later in 1876, along with the rest of the city. It is located in Badi Chopar, known as the Grand Square of Jaipur’s Old City. We usually took an Uber from our hotel, but you can order a rickshaw or hail on the street.
After taking in the architecture, we took a tour to the back of the palace where the tourist entrance is located. The airport is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. There is also a small museum that can be visited after exploring the palace. Entry fee is 200 INR. You can choose a guided tour or an audio tour for an additional fee.

The mansion was originally designed for royal ladies to look out of their windows and overlook the city’s daily life and festivities. Walking down the long narrow corridors, we admired every shape and detail. We found ourselves staring out the window, imagining what life in the city would have been like 200 years ago through the tiny window. We had amazing views of the Jantar Mantar and City Palace on one side and the Sirey Deori market on the other!
The best way to see Hawaii is from the outside, as you can admire the beautiful beehive architecture in front of you. Wind View Cafe and Tattoo Cafe are two cafes that offer great views across the street. Snack on a delicious fruit smoothie while enjoying this beautiful view or snapping some Insta-worthy photos. The palace is equally beautiful day and night. But it looks magical at sunset, when dark evening lights bring out the beauty of its fine details.
Be sure to check out the bustling streets below and be mesmerized by the seemingly chaotic daily life in Jaipur. There’s something appealing about unlimited traffic. The familiar friendly street performers, the occasional passing elephant, the endless bargains in the colorful street shops below – we could sit and watch for hours! At least watch out for the monkeys. They love to climb onto the cafe balcony and grab a drink or snack from an unsuspecting tourist. Stay away from them because they are dangerous and look cute!
Nestled atop the Aravalli Hills, the Amber Fort is 11 km from the center of Jaipur. There are two ways to get there. Rickshaws cost INR 500 for a return trip. We recommend taking a taxi/Uber due to the long journey, which can be stressful on the tracks due to traffic congestion. A taxi can cost up to 900 INR

The fort is located on a hill, so be prepared for a 10-minute climb to reach the entrance. There is an elephant ride to the fort. Unfortunately, few tourists were using it when we visited. We were against elephant riding for any reason, so we chose to go uphill. It’s a very easy walk, so you don’t have to think about other options
Upon arrival you are greeted by pink and yellow sandstone and the impressive Suraj Paval (Sun Gate) which leads you to the main courtyard. The fort is open daily from 8 am to 6 pm and the fee for foreigners is INR 200 per person. Come daily from 7pm to 9pm for an evening experience that includes a light and sound show. We visited during the day because it gave us the most time to explore and take pictures. If you want to take photos from the famous main entrance, try to get there before 9pm. After that it was pretty busy.
Amber Fort really took our breath away. Its architecture is an interesting mix of Hindu and Muslim influences. There are so many cul-de-sacs, grand staircases and secret little rooms that you could spend a day exploring here. The fort was built in such a chaotic manner that it gave the inhabitants enough time to run and hide when attacked by the enemy.
