Going To Yosemite On Vacation? Here’s How The Washburn Fire Will Impact Your Visit

We visited in October when the temperature was in the mid 70’s and the weather was perfect! It got a little chilly in the morning, but warmed up nicely during the day.

The area can get snowy so make sure you check the road conditions before you travel through the county during the winter.

I always recommend stopping by the city’s visitor center when visiting the area for the first time.

The staff have great resources for things to do in the area, local events and restaurants to try.

You can gain an even greater appreciation for the skills and strength of the Yosemite rock climbing community at the Yosemite Society Museum and Gallery.

The museum displays historic climbing artefacts, memorabilia, photography and publications as a way to help preserve the history of climbing.

Visitors can see how the sport of climbing and gear has evolved over time through various exhibits.

What You Need To Know Before Visiting Yosemite National Park

This museum is very informative with exhibits covering the California Gold Rush, Yosemite, Native Americans, the Spanish Institute and Mariposa County History.

Our teacher Chris really helped the history of the museum come alive for us with his interesting stories which included the life of the explorer John C. Fremont, who was also a politician when he was in the military camp.

For example, John Fremont described the furniture in one room of the mine in a comparison of two very different experiences and comforts of life without saying a word.

The Gold Rush continued in the area for about 7 years and then the area went to the miners who sold the tourist economy.

The Mariposa County Courthouse is the oldest courthouse in continuous use west of Sicily and dates back to 1854.

The judges’ court was not in session at the time of our visit which enabled us to view the courtroom located on the next floor.

You’ll find lots of shopping and restaurants in downtown Mariposa. The shops range from souvenirs, antiques, home decor and clothing shops.

I tried the shrimp a la diablo with sauteed shrimp in a sauce seasoned with butter, garlic and hot pepper. This is a great meal if you want a meal with some heat.

My husband enjoyed the enchilada combo platter. The portion sizes are generous and the chips and salty are also delicious.

The Forest House has a great atmosphere with plenty of seating inside and outside. You can enjoy live music in the craft beer and wine bar several nights a week.

In addition to craft beer and wine, you’ll find grapes, kombucha, hard cider, craft cocktails, and non-alcoholic options to choose from.

Forest House has a rotating farm-to-table menu if you want to grab a bite to eat during your visit.

We knew we wanted to get up early the next morning for our trip to Yosemite National Park.

We got up early and left Mariposa before sunrise because we wanted to try to watch the sunrise in the National Park.

The Valley Floor Tour is a great way to see an overview of Yosemite Park if you’re short on time.

You are supposed to arrive 15 minutes before your departure on the last flight, which leaves early on time.

Big Ideas And City Folks Are Coming To This Small Yosemite Gateway Town

I would recommend getting there even earlier than that as the seats fill up quickly and you ride shoulder to shoulder with the person next to you.

I think it is far too difficult to explore the highlights of Yosemite National Park and the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias (from the other side of the national park) in one day.

We really enjoyed the dedicated time to spend in all parts of the National Park over 2 days.

If you’re looking for the best accommodations near the National Park, start your search in Mariposa County. Many people who visit a beautiful National Park try to take in as much of the area as possible in as little time as possible. Our guide, in Two Days, helps visitors to conquer this large area in the hope that you can cover as much as possible if you can only stay for a short time, but it is strongly advised to stay longer! No matter how long you plan to stay, there are good places to stay everywhere, and there will never be a perfect time because, in the words of John Muir:

“This magnificent scene is eternal. The rising is always somewhere; the dew does not dry at once; the rain is always falling; the vapor is always rising.” – John Muir

Also, there can be no better feeling than rising to the sun and hearing the subtle sounds of animal life around you as you linger in the gardens. Did you know that more than 400 species of animals roam the area? From amphibians, fish and reptiles, to birds and exciting mammals. Patrons of the park are not surprised to hear owls, foxes, big sheep or bears staying a few nights.

It is always best to remember, however, that this is one of the most popular National Parks. As there are many places to stay nearby, booking is always a good choice if you want to stay close to, or in the National Park, especially as many places are well known or popular. To enjoy your trip to the fullest, keep your eyes open for the first accommodation opportunities.

If you plan to stay in the valley, there is the Ahwahnee (formerly The Majestic Hotel), a historic lodge from the 1900s where royalty and high society visitors could visit the National Park and enjoy a comfortable stay. This hotel also features separate cabins throughout the grounds, a heated pool, a large dining room (still with an entire dress code), a pub, a huge lobby, and an amazing fireplace.

Depending on what time of year you visit, the falls are unique. As part of the gallery that overlooks these magnificent phenomena, the Valley Lodge has a wonderful view of the Falls. For other views of nature from the comfort of your room, also check out Half Dome Village. Your visit to the National Park depends on what you want to see and how you want to experience it. There are different ways to enjoy the beauty and size of hidden gems lost in the woods.
