Palaces, mosques and ancient cities in the most unique and beautiful detail, it is the combination of natural man-made attractions that make Iran a photographer’s dream. First on the list is a beautiful piece of modern architecture in the capital of Iran, the Azad Tower. A Tehran landmark, Azad Tower is a refreshing and contrasting sight in Tehran’s concrete jungle. Standing 45m high against a backdrop of mountains and surrounded by lush greenery, Azad Tower is a photo opportunity you won’t want to miss.
But don’t get postcards like this photo of Azadi Tower from the park, but to get a unique photo, be sure to be creative with photographing the tower, which is not difficult because of the large space around the tower. The lines of the tower make it easier to find new images from all kinds of angles, not only from below but also from above. When you think you’ve found all the photos, head to the top of the tower to the lookout point and get a whole new perspective on not only the Azad Tower, but the city as well.
Although many describe Tehran as a polluted city filled with concrete, color is everywhere in Iran and so is Tehran. Golestan Palace consists of 17 structures, including the most beautiful halls and the reason why many photographers decide to visit this palace, the garden. It’s not the plants in the garden that are worth your time, but the stunning mosaic wall with the most beautiful intricate details. Each part of the wall shows a different piece of art, the number of images, wide angle or close up, is endless.

While the rest of the palace is worth a visit, many departments and halls have no photography policy, so instead just soak up the beautiful architecture and history of this more than 400-year-old palace.
Leave the concrete jungle of Tehran and head south to the desert city of Kashan, a small but worthy stop because Kashan’s architecture is unlike any other. The city center is full of traditional houses and small alleyways that are easy to get lost in if you don’t know yourself well. Walking and getting lost in the old town of Kasha is a worthwhile activity in itself, but the view of the city is what makes a visit to Kasha truly worthwhile as a photographer. Although there are many roofs to climb, one of the most famous is the roof of the Sultan Amir Ahmad Bath. With glass-filled domes used to illuminate the bath, this rooftop is unlike any other and has one of the most spectacular views of the city and mountains.
While wandering the streets of Kashan, you might come across this beautiful mosque, but it’s better to be safe than sorry and add it to your itinerary. Agha Bozorg Mosque in one of the most beautiful mosques of Kashan, which is largely different in style from many mosques in Iran. What stands out the most is not only the perfect symmetry of the mosque’s architecture, but also how this mosque beautifully demonstrates that more can be less. There are no walls filled with mosaic patterns and stained glass, but warm bricks with intricate details on ceilings and arches. Come during the golden hours because it gives the hot bricks a warmer glow and don’t forget to wander around the mosque to find new and creative angles.
From Kashan, continue south to the town of Spahan, a town known for its architecture. The Shah Mosque, also known as the New Abbas Mosque, is a perfect example of why this city is known for its beautiful architecture.
