After more than a decade as a frugal nomad, I’ve had the privilege of visiting dozens of countries on a budget that makes traveling as easy as possible.

Most Popular Travel Destinations According To Google

These places offer cheap accommodation, cheap food and many activities and tours that you can enjoy without breaking the bank.

Here’s a list of the cheapest places I’d like to go right now to help you plan your next budget trip:

Thailand is where it all started for me, so it has a special place in my heart. That’s when I decided to quit my job and travel the world. I lived there. I loved it there. Thailand is incredible.

With a decades-old tourism trail, Thailand is the center of tourism in Southeast Asia, and you can earn $25-$35 per day for cheap accommodation, food cheap streetcars (which can be taken for $1!), local buses, and cheap and free entertainment. If you spend all your time on the islands and in luxury accommodations, expect to pay closer to $60 per day. However, even with the price, Thailand is still one of the most important places in the world and you should not miss it!

Cheap Places To Travel On The Us Dollar In 2023

Do you want to wander through ancient ruins, walk in the forest, hike and eat delicious food with a few tourists? Explore the smaller countries of Central America – think El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and Guatemala. Here you’ll find most hotels costing $15-$30 a night, meals under $5, most buses around the same price, and beers under a dollar.

Belize, Panama, Costa Rica — these are expensive destinations by regional standards (but still affordable). If you visit these countries in Central America, you can earn $ 40-50 a day as a backpacker, or blow $ 100 a day and live freely. Your money really goes a long way in this area. And since there aren’t many countries to choose from, it’s easy to jump in and see a lot without crashing.

While you could put all of Southeast Asia on this list, Cambodia is one of my favorite countries in the region — it’s cheap, beautiful, and the people are incredibly hospitable. You can get a private air-conditioned room for $25, street food for $2-5, and transportation around the country for $20-25. If you spend about $50 a day, you’re living big.

Cambodia is cheaper than famous Thailand, but beautiful and full of the most beautiful people in the world. Plus, it’s home to the incredible Angkor Wat (expensive, but worth it!).

The Balkans are located in the south-east of Europe and it is the cheapest region in Europe. There are several countries – mostly with few tourists – off-the-radar areas that are very affordable but offer incredible value. Although places like Dubrovnik have seen an influx of tourists (due to the cruise ships that dock there), most of the area is ripe for travel. There’s cheap wine, great hiking and nature, amazing beaches, great food, and lifestyle. It is Europe’s best kept secret.

You can earn up to $30 a day – a fraction of what you’d pay in Western Europe. Meals during the week are only $25, while beers are around $2.

And while the area used to be notoriously unsafe, the situation has improved significantly in the past decade. There are more hiking trails and more tourism. This is the least explored area in Europe – but it won’t be long, so visit before the crowds and prices soar.

China has fascinated travelers since Marco Polo traveled the Silk Road in 1275. Although China’s days as a cheap destination are over, the country remains a budget destination – and one of the cheapest in Asia – with a caveat. You have to leave the big cities. Of course, the city is still safe. Accommodation is less than $20, meals are 2-5 dollars per meal, and local transportation in major cities is less than a dollar.

However, the country is even easier when you get off the beaten track and inland. Find the best travel deals and deals here! China remains one of the top destinations in the world, and due to its size (it’s the 3rd largest country by land area), there’s so much to see and do!

Despite being a relatively cheap country, the Indian Rupee has been hovering around 39 rupees to the US dollar. Now you get 78 rupees to the dollar – that’s almost 50 percent of the money to go. If you don’t book a five-star hotel and only eat western food, it’s hard to spend 50 dollars a day here. You can get close to $30 by staying in a cheap hotel, taking a second class train and avoiding Western food. And if you want to wake up, you can live a lot on $60 a day. Even famous places like the Taj Mahal – a wonder of the world – are very affordable (entrance as low as $14).

India is an affordable tourist destination with a rich cultural history, delicious food, helpful and interesting locals, incredible regional diversity, great tea and lots of activities. It’s a huge place that’s best explored either in one big trip or in smaller chunks. Anyway, don’t forget India.

Georgia has everything I need in a destination: cheap, has great food and wine, offers incredible hiking and mountains, and no tourists. I loved it immediately and wished I had visited sooner (I actually extended my stay when I did because I loved it so much!).

Located in the Caucasus, Georgia has been at a cultural crossroads for centuries, but is not as popular as it should be. Tbilisi is a bustling city, but the rest of the country offers adventurous adventures in a rugged and unusual environment.

Here again you can get away with nothing, with budget travelers spending $25 a day. Beer is around $2, weekly groceries are around $25-30, and most museums and historical sites are only $2-3.

Although it may seem insignificant, Georgia is one of the other major centers for tourism. I’ll be back soon!

Not all Eurozone countries are created equal, and Portugal is one of the region’s bargains – and one of my favorites. I fell in love with the country on my first visit. How could I not, with beautiful beaches, rolling wine country, stunning sea cliffs, excellent food, friendly locals and historic towns, all at a reasonable price.

The Best Holiday Destination In January

Portugal has become popular and crowded in recent years (the local expat and expat scene is growing), and Lisbon has become the most expensive as people move there and drive up prices. Great location! However, once you get outside of Lisbon, prices are still cheap compared to the rest of Western Europe – and you’ll see fewer tourists. Expect to earn between $45-$60 per day if you’re a budget backpacker.

Although it is beautiful in the summer, if you are looking for an inexpensive place to spend the winter in Europe, Portugal is one of the best options.

Spent a lot of time there. And someone kidnapped me. Mexico City is a foodie paradise, Oaxaca has a lot of beauty (and endless mezcal!), and the Yucatan is perfect for hiking and cenote exploration. And because it’s so close to the US, it’s not only cheap (beers are only $1-$2, groceries around $25 a week, and you can get by for under $50 a day), but it’s also easy to to. – two wins!

Although there are some areas that are not safe to explore, you can enjoy most of the country on your own. Whatever you are interested in – beaches, festivals, food, history, nature – there is a corner of the country that you can always enjoy.
